Suggested for inclusion in the refrigerant pipework clause of a mechanical services specification
Horizontal installation of insulated refrigerant pipework shall be supported by a Pipelounge multi-pipe support system.
Pipe supports shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation guidance.
Insulated pipes shall be uniformly distributed across the full width of each bracket, with a maximum load of 50kg per bracket and a minimum 250mm longitudinal contact surface length.
Individual bracket width shall be selected to suit the number of supported pipes. Where multiple brackets are required for additional pipes, brackets shall be either stacked vertically or joined horizontally and supported from all mounting tabs. When using a strut framing system 7mm proprietary PLpackers shall be fitted beneath the upper mounting tabs and when joining supports a proprietary PLjoiner shall be used.
Supports shall be provided at 1500mm intervals along the length of the supported pipework and not more than 200mm from each change in direction.
Brackets shall be manufactured by injection moulding of flame retardant and recyclable black ABS plastic that achieves V0 and 5VA flammability ratings in accordance with UL-94.
Insulated pipes shall be secured in place to each bracket by hook-and-loop fastening straps without compressing the pipe insulation material and allowing independent longitudinal movement of each pipe through the bracket. Strap length shall be selected to surround the entire perimeter of the bracket and supported pipes, plus a minimum 100mm overlap.
Each bracket shall be affixed directly to the building structure by high tensile M10 threaded rod connected to the sides of the bracket. Flanged nuts shall secure the bracket to the rod from above and below. Rods shall be trimmed to align with the underside of the bracket and filed to prevent injury.
Where seismic restraint of the support system is required, brackets shall be fitted over a 40mm strut framing system, with a seismic restraint system applied directly to the strut that has been certified by a structural engineer.
The strength and span of the selected anchoring and strut systems shall be adjusted to accommodate the load of multiple stacked or joined brackets.
Each bracket shall be supported by a strut framing system where a 50 kg load capacity is exceeded. Strut framing, hanger rods, anchors and other connectors into the supporting structure is to be undertaken in accordance with the relevant manufacturer’s printed instructions.
When securing threaded rods to the strut framing system 7mm proprietary PLpackers shall be fitted beneath upper mounting tabs.
Where installed in a location subject to sunlight, wind, rain, snow and/or ice, additional protection and support shall be provided that is independent of the bracket and supported pipework.
